Yu Restaurant Review by Sandra Bahbah A mid-week food experience was on the cards as three of my newly found friends and I visited the enticing Yu Restaurant at Burswood Resort Casino.

As we took our seats I looked out onto the picturesque skyline with the sun was setting and immediately felt myself relaxing under the elegant atmosphere of the restaurant. Wine The service was impeccable from the beginning as the staff gave us a choice of the Cape Mentelle Sauvignon Blanc Semillon and Vasse Felix Cabernet Merlot to quench our palette as we went through the many courses. The Food Starters I have eaten a lot of Chinese food in my day and expected the food to be much the same but this truly was a culinary treat. I have never been a huge fan of bean curd but with its light marinade and cucumber accompaniment I ate every piece. Due to our hunger we ordered the standard prawn crackers which were freshly made and delightful.

Next up was the Lobster Sang Choi Bow, lobster meat filled inside a lettuce leaf. This was my first Sang Choi Bow and I can safely say I am now a huge fan. The cold lettuce against the warm Lobster left a taste sensation in my mouth.

The courses were coming out at a reasonable speed with enough time to digest without extreme hunger pangs. The Baked Crab Shell in Portuguese sauce was next on the menu and was well presented. I have never been a huge fan of crab and didn’t much like the slight coconut flavour but others at my table gave it big thumbs up. Still with reasonable room in my stomach I indulged in a Peking Duck pancake. I had tried this dish before and didn’t much enjoy it but a beautiful piece of duck with vegetables wrapped in the light pancake and drizzled with hoi sin sauce I was left dumfounded as to how good it was when done properly. Mains Struggling at this point, I knew I had to make room when I saw the array of goodies presented on our table. Sea Salt King Prawns the size of my fist and served with shallow-fried asparagus caught my eye immediately and I devoured two prawns quickly and without modesty. The Scallops were equally as tasty coated with ginger and shallots. Cooked to perfection, it reinforced why I love seafood so much. Possibly one of the best beef dishes I have had in recent memory, the Eye Fillet with Honey and Pepper Sauce melted in my mouth because of its wonderful tenderness. Just in case none of these dishes filled us, we were served a healthy amount of carbohydrates with the Special Fried Rice.

Dessert Well and truly full I left it to my other counterparts to order desserts and I would have just one bite from them. The trio decided on Green Tea Fried Ice-cream. Nestled on top of the sweet Sago it was a beautiful contrast between the white of the Sago and the brown of the icecream, which once opened revealed the green delight. It was definitely something unusual for me but surprisingly not bad. I don’t know if I would order it myself, being very much a chocolate dessert oriented girl. All in all, this was one of the best Asian food moments for me. The service was outstanding; the dishes were created right in front of you, there was wine aplenty and smiling faces all round. This all ensured my next Chinese dining experience would absolutely be Yu. Yu Restaurant
